Water Conservation

  • Water is a key part of being a florist and we do consume a lot of it as I change my water the flowers are in daily.

  • Florist water contain a lot of flower food which is bad for our rivers and streams, so instead of the waste water going down a drain I water my garden with it, making good use of the nutrient rich water.

  • We florists know all about scrubbing buckets - another way we consume water. I do this on my lawn, saving me to have to water it.

  • All my flowers go out in water as flowers out of water are dead flowers within a few hours. This water contains flower food, so use it to water plants at your place too when you change the water or discard the flowers at the end of their bloom cycle.

Uncoated Paper

  • I made the conscious decision to only use uncoated paper in my store to package and wrap my flowers in.

  • Paper with a plastic coating on it, to make it water proof, can not be recycled - so I don't use it at all.

  • My ECO Carton Vases are an unique feature perfectly suited for situations where a permanent vase is not required.

  • These are also much welcomed by Hospitals and Aged Care facilities due to them being a no mess, no fuss system.

  • My cards are made from recycled paper and the message that I print inside of them are done inkless with a thermal printer.

Repurposing Consumables

  • Small changes can have a massive effect like swapping the traditional plastic card holders - of which I use thousands a year - for an ECO friendly bamboo skewer with a peg stuck to it.

  • I use quality vases and other novelty containers to arrange flowers in. These live a long and happy life at the recipients home where they can be used repeatedly.

  • Many of my clients return vases to me in my vase exchange program where I wash them and use them again for somebody else.

  • Wherever plastic is used, like water vials, they are of excellent quality and can be used for many years.

  • I am in the process of becoming completely flower foam free as this substance is proving to be harmful to the environment.  New developments are coming with plant based flower foam being the holy grail.

Green Waste Management

  • Not all flowers are of good enough quality to be sold and end up, with their older friends together with thousands of stripped leaves and cut stems in the green waste bin.

  • These green materials are full of nutrients from the water they stood in, so I make good use of them by feeding them through my trusted shredder.

  • The shredded materials then go onto my compost heap and every 6 weeks I have amazing compost to use and to share with my gardener friends.

  • Broken flower heads or short stems are used to decorate gifts with or find their place in one of my very popular Window Flower Boxes.

  • I have quite a few darling people that bring me the cuttings and vines from their garden which I use to make wreaths with.
